The Sanskrit language and literature form the foundation of India’s social and cultural ethos. The Department of Alankara Shastra, established in 2018–19, aims to promote classical poetics, aesthetics, and literary studies under the guidance of eminent scholars.

Objectives of the Department:

  • Study and analyse the works of great Sanskrit poets.
  • Understand and appreciate literary nuances and wordplay.
  • Apply principles of Vyakarana and Nyaya to literary texts.
  • Explore the role of Alankaras in shaping poetic expression.
  • Recognize distinctions between different poetic figures.

Head of the Department & Assistant Professor

Dr. Rishidev Bharghav N (Vyakarana Acharya) received traditional Gurukula training and holds Gold Medal in Alankara Shastra. His expertise covers phonetics, Vyakarana, and classical poetics.

Dr. Bheemanaik S

Assistant Professor

Dr. Bheemanaik obtained his Ph.D. from Kuvempu University with the topic “Shivathathvarathnakaradallina Alankara Shastra Vimarshe,” under the guidance of Dr. G. V. Kallapura. He completed his M.A. in Samskrit and also holds a B.Ed. degree. He has authored book chapters in Unnata Shikshanadalli Yoga, Pranayama mathu Dyana published by Government First Grade College, Kittur, and the book Baanana Saili published by Likhit Publications, Mysore. His article Kalidaseeyarupakeshu Paryavaranapreetihi was published by the Department of Sanskrit, University of Mysore.

Dr. Vanaraja B K

Assistant Professor

Dr. Vanaraja B K (Alankara Vidwath) was educated in the traditional Gurukula system and pursued Alankara Shastra Vidwath from Sri Kalabhairaveshwara Sanskrit Veda Agama College, Sri Adichunchanagiri Kshetra, Mandya District. He has also completed Vidwath in Advaita Vedanta and Krishna Yajurveda Ghananta, and earned his M.A. in Sanskrit from Kuvempu University, Shimoga. He was awarded a Ph.D. by Tumkur University for his thesis entitled “Basana Roopakagalalli Nayakaru Ondu Vimarshatmaka Adhyayana” under the guidance of Dr. Sridhara Bhat Ainakai.
